Some people are upset with my posts and that's alright. Get facts right and please don't make blanket statements as if you are the final word on the subject. Leading people to beleive what you said is the way it is in the military, because it obviously is not. TOM I, the money goes to the central government of Japan, which Okinawa is a part of, did you know? The central government gives back some to Okinawa, not all of it. We the people are being taken for a ride with the way military spending is going on with housing allowances and other items connected to bases overseas. Okay, some people posted it is cost effective to pay for an entire family to move to another country and live there. Under the presents system allowing so much money to be paid, should say over pay, for housing that surpasses many home in the USA . How is that worked out and where are the figures that the public and look at. To show it costs less.

military members deserve to have their family go overseas with them when at all possible. how can you begrudge military members a little bit of happiness for protecting your country? who gives a f*ck about the cost when some americans lose their life which is an even greater cost.

I guess you must be Japanese, and a bit upset about having a conquering army still based in your country after so many years, but, they are there for a purpose, that is a front line defence against enemies of Japan, and America. Japan is a very important country in the world and it needs to be defended, and the soldiers and personnel spend a lot of money that goes directly into the pockets of local businesses, right, so Okinawa does benefit greatly from their presence. Actually, I found it hard to understand your question, because your English is not very good, please try harder to understand English, but most of all, please try to understand that complaining will only create bigger problems.

Actually the military on Okinawa does boost the economy . You left out all the local jobs created because the US military is there. The US military members don't stay on base all the time, they spend their money in Okinawa. Also there is the economic impact of all the Okinawans working on the US military bases. The Okinawans government estimates the economic impact of the US bases on Okinawa as 173.7 billion Yin annually. That's 50 billion from service member spending 70 billion for land use rent and 52 billion in salary from Okinawans working on US bases.

so the money made in japan should go to the japanese if the usa want a base there they should pay the japanese. why do americans think they should have bases all around the world for free. the brits have bases all around the world to but we have to pay for our bases so why dont you. and the money should not nessacely go to one place in japan either. it should be spread out as there are poorer places in japan that okinawa. so some of the money should go there. i think its time the usa and the brits moved there bases back home. and let the world sort themselves out. terry

Housing allowances always vary with the local economy. Of course they contribute to the local economy they have money and they buy things. Dad living one place and the family living in another. Why could that be more cost effective? Not to mention its not just housing dollars and cents. Life with out Dad means increased childcare costs, stress on Mom and kids,(stress also means more sickness) and there are kids abandonment issues that every military family faces. Not to mention the fact that a lot of times when Dad is away he is in a dangerous place, actually fighting. Now remember, the military is making flights there anyway many times families just go along space available. That goes for shipping crates too I believe. If its too expensive to go along Mom and kids often go home to be near grandparents. The highest concentration of people live on both coasts. Guess where the highest real estate prices are? If you are from say Indiana ,you don't pay near what the east coast or west coast people pay for housing. My grandmothers two bedroom house in a small Indiana town sold for $35,000 , the same house in Connecticut would be around $250,000 , in California it would be around half a million. (Makes me wish I had put it on a truck and brought it over!) But most importantly, military families are separated so often that they would never get time together if they did not move with Dad. If you really want to find out where the costs run up though check out what it cost to put a coffee maker in. Or sheet metal screws, or any thing because they can't just buy them anywhere nope the Democrats made sure that the government cant buy from manufacturers unless they meet an exhaustive list of criteria. How many of each race and sex are employed there are they union? It goes on down the hill to suppliers too. there's your drain hole . How about you let the people who are protecting our nations freedom have the comfort of have their families near when they can. and drop it

That sounds like an issue for the Okinawans/Japanese to fight over.

I think I have figured out a couple of solutions to your problems.... How about turning yourself in for illegally receiving US Military stations? Someone will remove it from your TV and you won't have to make anymore "assumptions" about what you are watching. OR You could join the military "again" and see how things really are today. According to you, its life on easy street so give it a try! OR You could do some real research and find out where our government money is really going, who it is being spent on, and where it is coming from. It would seem to me that since you are getting some pretty heavy opposition on this issue, maybe you are not as right as you think you are. Agree?
