Is it possible to still make a mistake in wiring money from Citibank Japan?

Is it possible to still make a mistake in wiring money from Citibank Japan?
My husband been sending money to my US account for the 5th time already. This month was a delay. He told me that he had a bank account number mistake. So, Citibank has to track the wire to a wrong account and return it to his account and that is the time to transfer to my bank account. He do the telephone banking. Like he calls everytime he sends money. I thought that there is an imput of name and bank account whenever you send money especially many times or is it possible that everytime he calls citibank employee, he has to give my account number again? Hope there is an answer or any experience of wrong account number from you guys. I need an answer if this is possible especially CITIBANk JAPAN. Thanks much. ANA

Yes it is possible to send money to the wrong account in Citibank. I have an International account with them and although, so far, I have never made a mistake with the numbers, they always warn you to double check before you submit the exchange as it can take a long time to correct if you get it wrong. Be carefull. Steve
2 :
Yes, it is..in many cases.... I reviewed your question so far, you mentioned he calls everytime he do the banking...as most of the staffs is not a native speaker of English, might there be a misunderstanding or hard hearing the correct number your husband gave.. but as he gave your name it would be track down for there might be more than one name like your name so they would asked to give your account number... Just to remind you, there are many staffs working on Citibank and misunderstanding always happen as even we showed in person we always find a lot of errors from bank transactions. I agree Western Union does good even it charge more because it is fast and safe for one hour just give the name of the person you are sending the money.. hope this helps! good day!

I really need oversea job in Middle-East or Japan or any rich country to make lot money fast, know a site ?
I know Dubai and UAE are quite popular, and those jobs on ships, even though it looks soooo hard to be a 24 7 slave for ungratefully rich people, but do you have any website where I could find job, contract or not, in a foreign country where money flows ? I dont have much qualifications, except speaking some languages, I mean academic qualifications,

How can our school make money for Japan?

How can our school make money for Japan?
I want our school to raise money for Japan, but I don't know what to do. I was going to have all the kids bring in stuff that they didn't use, and have like a "School Garage Sale" and sell everything for like $2.00. But then I realized, I don't know if it would work because a lot of people might not want to buy bad things. Any other ideas that our school can do? P.S. Our school has a bake sale like every week for a different cause, so I want something new. :) Thanks Also, what are your thoughts on my idea? Do you think it will work?

Can I make money vlogging in Japan?

Can I make money vlogging in Japan?
I'm going to Japan when I graduate from college. I plan to stay there as long as possible (until get deported or forever if i can get citizenship), but I'm still learning to speak Japanese and I can barely write/read Japanese. I know I won't be able to get a real job because of my bad Japanese so I was thinking of doing a daily vlog and posting it on youtube. I know all the popular vloggers make a 6 figure income, but is it possible for me to make enough money to live just starting out as a vlogger?

If you are not Japanese looking there is a very high chance of police officers asking you for your ID (either your passport or your alien registration card). If you're there illegally (past 90 days straight on a tourist visa and without a different visa) you will be deported and barred from the country for a long period of time. That aside, it will be very tough but never give up on your dreams :)

depends on many things. Just like here it will depend on the school district. In the south bronx you make 30,000 year, in westchester makes 70K+, Also besides the differences in public schools salaries there are different types of schools in Japan. As I assume you are a westerner, you may be interested in working at a private language institute. These are not really schools and most people working there are not really teachers. It is what it is and i won't knock it too much. The pay here is decent for asia, 1,800 to 2,500 USD per month at a guess. In a large city like tokyo, the money will just get you by. Small one bedroom or studio, some pocket money and that's about it. It's some of the best money in Asia but also the highest cost of living. Last I heard South Korea paid foriegn teachers the best in asia followed by japan. Thailand is 900$ month for foriegners and they are the bottom so, japan has to be at least 1,500. You can check daves esl cafe for exact opportunities. From my understanding, Japanese teachers make about the same or more than us foriegners. In some countries we get paid a lot compared to locals but I think in Japan we're about even if not treated as inferior.

With a TEFL or TESL certificate you could get about 230,000 or 250,000 Yen a month which is about 2,800 American dollars, Japan is an expensive place to live but if you don't over spend, this salary will be enough for you, and you can also save some of it.

How much money can you make teaching English in Japan?

How much money can you make teaching English in Japan?
not as a teacher but as a tutor for college students in Japan. I heard you don't have to be a good teacher you just have to be good in conversations with Japanese College students. I was unaware of the fees you can earn but it would be enough to pay for your college tuition in Japan. I am a male native english speaker with partial Japanese descent minoring in Japanese Language which is plus points but how much can I make?
Japan - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I think you heard wrong. No way can you make enough money teaching English to cover college tuition costs ! Students can only work part time. Regular English teachers average 250,000 yen a month.
2 :
Carl, you are misinformed... With a student visa, you can only work 28 hours a week. The visa will not allow you to work your first two months, so I tutor highschool students under the radar. I'm currently enrolled in a Japanese language school in Akihabara, I'm living in an apartment with 3 other people, and my rent is about 500$ a month. With my tutoring job, I pull in about 300yen/hr. Now I'm also working in a butler cafe, which pays really well. I just gotta make the customers feel like a princess. So you can definitely make enough to support yourself, and go to a university, as long as its not 早稲田. Oh, and I'm only 17, so If I can do it, you can do it.
3 :
No way can you support yourself working 28 hours a week !
4 :
some friends went to japan and was paid $5000 a month, but spent many hours teaching. he didn't tell me exactly what was discounted.
5 :
So, Bren, you pull in 300 yen/hr. Hope that was a typo or I don't know how you are getting by. Carl was spot-on with the law. Under the radar? That can work. Take Bren's figure of 300 yen/hr and see how many hours you would have to work to pay about $20K/year for college and see if you have enough time to attend classes and study too. Up it to 3000 yen/hr, take a guess at how many student you can get and do the same calculations. And speaking Japanese isn't really that much of a plus point if you want to teach English. If you want to teach English you shouldn't be speaking Japanese in class.
6 :
First of all, there are many English native speakers who want to teach English in Japan. You have to be a VERY exellent teacher if you want to earn a lot of money by doing that. AND you need to know how to teach English. Speaking English and teaching it are two different things. No offense, but you seem to play down the problem. Japan is not native Enlish speakers' heaven.

I dont know how much people make, but 25000 yen (japanese money) is pretty much the same as 250 USD. 100 yen is equal to about $1 CAD or USD but the rates change and i think it's somewhere in the 80s now :P so maybe 80 yen per dollar

The average monthly net income for a single individual is 180,000 Yen or $2,243. It is hard to live in Tokyo with that amount, though.

So i have a job online. Is it possible to live in Japan because i make good money. I do i need to have a real job in Japan?

To get a visa allowing you to work, you would need an employer to sponsor your visa application. You seem very desperate to go to Japan, Paige. Why not go for a long holiday first to see if you like it. If you really want to emigrate you have to at least have a degree. Look at the Ministry of Foreign affairs website. As you can see the visa criteria is very strict. http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/
2 :
You need a "real" job in Japan.
3 :
You need a Japanese company to sponsor you if you want to live in Japan. Either that or you need to be married to a Japanese person. Have you ever been to Japan? I suggest you take a tourist trip there first for the full 90 days to see if it's the place for you. Many people are misinformed thinking people speak English in Japan but they don't. They also think Japan is like it is in anime and manga, which also couldn't be further from the truth in most cases.
4 :
I don't think you can get a working visa of Japan by making money online. If you have another visa, it's possible to live in Japan.
5 :
Not unless you're married to a Japanese citizen. I know an American who lives in a rural part of Japan and works for an American company online. He is, however, married to a Japanese woman he met while he was working here as an English teacher.
6 :
No, it is NOT possible. Now, run along.
7 :
Input your answer here. Hi paige, A new idea-see if it suits.
8 :
No. You are making good money where you are living, but that does not translate to the same thing if you were living in Japan. Before you can live as a permanent resident in Japan, you have to prove that: 1) You can function in Japanese society; i.e. speak the language 2) You will not be a drain on the welfare program; i.e. educated with a college degree and have a job. 3) You have no criminal record.

Can I make money in Japan?

Can I make money in Japan?
I'm currently in Tokyo, Japan studying at my college's sister school. I was wondering if it was possible for me to make money on the side legally while I'm in Japan. I'll be here for a little over three months on my student visa. Thanks! I have money to live but I'd like a little bit of spending money, is there a way for me to make between five and ten thousand yen? I just don't want to violate any visa laws, I know I'm not allowed to have a job without the work visa. And I only speak a little bit of Japanese.

15 :
I believe that you can legally work for 20 hours a week on a student visa (unless that's changed since I had one). If your Japanese isn't so good you might find it difficult to get a part-time job, but then, if you can get one, your Japanese will improve :D If you have the time, you could always tutor some people privately in English. Try a website like http://www.findateacher.net/
16 :
You can get a work permit. http://www.moj.go.jp/ONLINE/IMMIGRATION/16-8.html The official name of the permit is "permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residency previously granted." You need a valid student visa and alien registration card for the application. Good luck competing with the high school kids to flip burgers at McDonald's.
17 :
Say what? "my college's sister school"? what the heck is that??!?!?! i dont think you can make money if you dont speak japanese. maybe you can sit on the side walks and get a cup and wait for people to drop money.. have a sign too like "okane ga arimasen, anata ni okane wo kureru koto ga dekimasu, kudasai ne" "i dont have money, can you please give me money?"
18 :
Go to the regional immigration office to apply your temporary work with detailed contract. You will be approved if all documents are well prepared enough to get part-time job. Without the permission, your side business will be illegal.

Could I get enough money in Japan if I were an architect? And if not what job could I do to make enough money?
If I were to be a foreign exchange student to Japan from the United States, would I be able to obtain enough money in that line of work to live comfortably? (decent apartment, enough food, water, and maybe some other luxuries like internet and phone.)
Japan - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

a study visa has some pretty strict restrictions to what kind of work/how much work you can do.
2 :
Please understand that foreign exchange student is not someone who can earn money. If you want to earn, you have to graduate from school and find a job. It's not realistic to think that you can be an architect in Japan. It's difficult even for Japanese to become an architect. You must pass architect exam which is very hard. But if you become, you can earn enough. If you just want to have (decent apartment, enough food, water, and maybe some other luxuries like internet and phone.), it's enough even if you are working as English teacher. What's really expensive in Japan is education of children. So if you want to marry and have children in Japan, you must have better jobs.

Does Satoru.Japan, modeling agency, charge big money to make portfolios or are they on the up & up for hiring?
Some "modeling agencies" are in the business of charging big money for creating portfolios but promises to find work for models are not real. Their business is really only making money on portfolios- a kind of scam.
Small Business - 1 Answers

The only way to know is to go. If they ask you for money for a portfolio, then walk out. A legitimate agency shouldn't be producing your portfolio or requiring you to use one specific photographer. They also don't do a portfolio until AFTER you have signed a contract. A legitimate agency should give you a list of recommended photographers and you are free to use the one of your choice

Women in America make 80 cents to the mans dollar so I was wondering if women in Japan also get paid less than men.
Sociology - 1 Answers

I do not have a numerical data, however maybe No in average, because the rate of part-timer in women is more than in men and women get time with their children rather than money. The Japanese prekindergarten for infants ( ~age2 or 3) are very expensive and always full. In the most case, one of the couple has to take care of their children. It causes to resign for women. Add them, the stagnation of economy make it difficult to get job again in this 10 years or more.

Would getting a transfer to Japan for a job make me more money than getting a job directly in Japan?

Would getting a transfer to Japan for a job make me more money than getting a job directly in Japan?
Would I be able to make more money by getting a job here in Canada and possibly getting a transfer, or would I make more by getting a job directly in Japan? Or does it even matter? Please don't tell me how I need a visa or anything like that. Just answer my question with a little detail. Please don't get sidetracked! Thank you.
Japan - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
In short, yes a transfer is better for more reasons than pay. I was transferred from my office in the USA to Japan. I was given support for finding a house, setting up my bank account, and establishing residency. I was assigned a person from a company that specializes in expat relocation. Also, in terms of pay, my US based pay was adjusted to reflect the change in taxes, cost of living and Holiday benefits. For transfer purposes, I was given 2 months extra pay, one on the US side and another extra month when I arrived in Japan to cover the numerous un expected moving costs. The company also, arranged for all of my belongings to be shipped by sea and air. They arranged all the taxes and import procedures.
2 :
Definitely a transfer job by a mile. Forget the visa hassle -- I've never heard of a company that transfers an employee overseas and not do the visa and paperwork for them For the same kinds of work, a Japanese hire is paid less than someone sent to work in Japan on an oversea assignment. As a transferee, you get several bonus from living cost adjustments, tax advantages, housing support, and even in some cases per diem on top of your salary. If you get an opportunity, don't pass it up and this does not apply only to work in Japan. Jobs abroad to any country is a big bonus. The only possible negative is that if you have children and wanted to enroll them in certain schools for ex-pats. Depending on where you want them enrolled, it could get expensive.
3 :
A transfer is much better. Getting a job on your own there would require a four year degree. You would also need a job offer before you got there. Outside of teaching English and high tech jobs, there is little available for Canadians.

You bet . . . research Carry Trade - same principle.
2 :
That would depend upon Japanese law, a subject of which I have no knowledge whatsoever. However, one guideline is pretty much universal: The higher the rate of return, the higher the risk involved.
3 :
Sure it's legal. However (and this is important), your return on investment must take into account BOTH the interest on the investment and the exchange rate between the two countries. If you are in Japan and want to invest in the US, you first have to exchange yen for dollars at the current exchange rate, then invest the dollars. Eventually, you will have to convert the dollars (principal and interest) back into yen at whatever the exchange rate is at the time you convert back. You would earn the higher interest rate, but you could either lose or make money on the exchange of currencies.
4 :
it legal i have a sister in law that does it but once like poster three said she lost money because of the exchange rate!!!

4 :
What do you call a lot? If a lot = $100k then yes especially when you consider the housing subsidy given to athletes and translators/tutors. Now I haven’t heard of anyone making $500 or $600k in hoops over there like China has kicked out to a few players (mostly to bring notoriety to their league), but it’s not impossible (although unlikely). The big $ for U.S. athletes and coaches are in baseball. Ignore Shelton & Kent! The Yen is paying north of 80 for $1, but don’t think you can take $10 over to Tokyo and live it big. That city makes Manhattan look like a cheap place to live and the other major cities (where pro teams are) don’t exactly give you big time relief as a move from NYC to Memphis. Remember Japan is the second largest (soon to be third largest) economy in the world with nowhere near our population.

http://data.un.org/Data.aspx?q=export&d=CDB&f=srID%3a6200 This is the UN's archive. It has total marchandise exports for countries around the world upto year 2006 (not 2007). http://www.stat.go.jp/data/sekai/zuhyou/0906.xls The spreadsheet is more detailed version from the Japanese Department of Statistics. It's all in Japanese, but has all the data between 2002 and 2006 (not for 2001 & 2007 unfortunately...), so I recommend you to chuck the whole thing into some online translation. By the way, line 6 is the total amount, and 57 is Australia. Also, sheet 1 shows export & sheet 2 shows import. You gotta really becareful with scaling though - all the numbers are x1million yen (where, 1yen = 1c, 100yen = $1). For example, in 2002, 1.038754trillion yen (around AU$11billion) of exports to Australia. http://www.stat.go.jp/data/sekai/09.htm#g09-00 Here is the original page. Again, it's all Japanese but has links to few other graphs & tables too.
